The below are some of our favourite places to visit in relatively close proxity to the lodges. Details were correct at the time of publication. If you find that circumstances have changed, or if you find any other gems worthy of inclusion, please email me at shona@lancasterlodges.co.uk
Greenlands Farm Village
The fabulous Greenlands Farm Village is a must visit destination that is just a five minute drive or 20 minute walk from our lodges. Just turn left out of the site’s main entrance, then go right at the roundabout and follow the signs. Greenlands is about half a mile down this road (A6070), well signed on the left hand side. It is almost directly opposite the excellent Longlands Inn and Restaurant. For more details about Longlands, please check out our ‘Food and Drink’ page.
Historically, there was a watermill on the site until 1720, this then became a sheep barn in 1975. Now, it is a popular tourist attraction that offers the following amenities:
Wellies cafe & bistro
Village farm shop offering local meats and cheeses, wines & champagnes, local cakes, jams & chutney and in the hay loft you’ll find local crafts, gifts, homeware, cards, books & much more.
Greenland’s open farm with lots to look at, touch, stroke, pet etc. Lamb feeding usually takes place twice a day when the little lambs are about.
Indoor crazy golf, go cart racing, archery and lots more.
The village is dog friendly and has ample free parking.

Carnforth Railway Station
One of our favourite things to do whilst at the lodges is to go on a day trip on the train. It is only a few minutes drive to Carnforth Railway station and there is a large car park there. While you are there why not take a look around the Heritage Centre www.CarnforthStation.co.uk (free admission) and reminisce the classic 1945 British romantic film Brief Encounter that was largely filmed at the station. Also, perhaps visit The Snug micro-pub (dog friendly) for some refreshments after a long walk…
As we usually arrive at the last minute, the ‘RingGo’ is a great alternative way to buy your parking ticket whilst on the platform or even the train itself! Parking is £5.00 for 24 hours (as at March 2022).
We enjoy walking in all the below places and it only takes a short amount of time to reach these destinations:
Silverdale 5 minutes
Arnside 9 minutes
Grange-over-Sands 14 minutes
Cark & Cartmel 22 minutes
Best of all your dog is able to travel free!
Silverdale Village
Silverdale is a stunningly beautiful village set on Morecambe Bay and forms part of the Arnside and Silverdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The village is a short drive from our lodges or alternatively you can take the short trip to Silverdale Station from Carnforth Railway Station. It is the first stop on the Barrow-in-Furness line. For the more energetic, you can walk to the village via Warton Crag and the causeway path that crosses the middle of Leighton Moss (RSPB) nature reserve, a route with many spectacular views across the bay.
There are many excellent walks around the Silverdale area. Check out Silverdale Cave by the beach and the nearby old smelting chimney at Jenny Brown’s Point.
For any budding treasure hunters, Silverdale is famous for being the location where in 2011, a metal detectorist unearthed the so called ‘Silverdale Hoard’, an early 10th-century Viking hoard comprising 201 silver coins, jewellery, ingots and hacksilver.
Silverdale has several shops and cafes, I would certainly recommend the Wolf House Cafe within Wolf House Gallery on Lindeth Rd (postcode LA5 0TX) and the Blossom Bird coffee Shop on Emesgate Ln (post code LA5 ORA .
There are two pubs in the village both of which are all well worth a visit, they are The Silverdale Hotel on Shore Road (postcode LA5 0TP), and the Royal Silverdale on Emesgate Ln (postcode LA5 0RA).
There is also a well recommended Indian restaurant, The Cinnamon Spice on Emesgate Ln (postcode LA5 0RA).
